In 1777 there were 8 licensed stills in Edinburgh and 400 illicit ones. Now there is just one, calling itself ‘The Edinburgh Malt’. Being heavily marketed as one of the six classic malts has helped promote Glenkinchie to a wide and appreciative audience. The water used in this whisky runs through limestone giving it a particularly dry finish.
